Assessment and modeling of groundwater quality by using water quality index (WQI) and GIS technique in meknes aquifer (Morocco)

Assessment of groundwater quality is important for drinking water, especially rural populations. The aim this study was to assess the human consumption by integrating water index with geographic information system (GIS) eventual interpretation Meknes area quality. Eight wells and two springs were investigated between February 2013 2014. In light analysis results, spatial distribution maps chosen physico-chemical parameters such as pH, O2, EC, Ca2+, Mg2+, SO42−, NH4+, NO3−, NO2−, PO43−, SO42− HCO3 – prepared using GIS. Water Quality Index (WQI) approach utilized have been developed GIS obtained indexes. anthropogenic activities may be likely cause poor north north-west regions are influenced inputs from leaching landfill wastewater, whereas south-west region affected agricultural runoff due a quite high level activity. WQI values varied 28.88 187.18. According classification, 30% samples unsuitable purposes. These findings indicate need serious reflection on part planners decision-makers efficient management resources.
